Annie Braddock (Johansson), who lives in New Jersey, arrives in Manhattan after graduating from college and starts working as a nanny for a wealthy family. Realizing that living on the other side of the city is not easy, Annie tries to fulfill the endless demands of Mrs. X (Linney) while taking care of her son, Grayer. As Annie starts to get closer to a young man she meets in the building, she encounters unexpected events in the world of the rich. The challenges she faces and the relationships she forms in this unfamiliar environment shape Annie's journey as she navigates through the complexities of Manhattan's elite society.
