Elena, a skilled nurse, marries Vladimir, a wealthy, elderly man who requires home care. Both of them have troubled and distant relationships with their children from previous marriages. However, when Vladimir suffers a heart attack and is hospitalized, he decides to write his will, but Elena is not included. Elena, who tries to keep her son's crumbling family together, finds herself caught in a moral dilemma between her husband and his family.
Andrey Zvyagintsev, a Russian filmmaker who gained a considerable following with his films "The Return" and "The Banishment," directed this latest film. It was not only chosen as the closing film for the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival but also received the Jury Prize for this section. The film was screened at the 2011 Filmekimi in Turkey and received high praise from critics.
