"Hayat Çok Güzel" is a film inspired by a true story. It focuses on the life of Mateusz, a cerebral palsy patient who was diagnosed with mental retardation in his early childhood and grew up without connecting with the outside world. Twenty-five years later, it is revealed that Mateusz is actually a perfectly normal and intelligent person. Although this production may seem to have a rather old-fashioned approach to disability issues for many people, it is already quite impressive. Moreover, it is groundbreaking for Poland and can even be considered bold within mainstream Polish cinema. As the film informs us, attitudes towards physical and mental disabilities were much more ignorant in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, which coincides with the times when Mateusz grew up.
