Asbjorn, the son of a Viking chieftain who was labeled as a rebel after their homeland was invaded by King Harald, leads a group of exiled Vikings in their attempt to reach other Viking settlements in the south. However, they are caught in a storm and their boats sink off the coast of Scotland.
Upon reaching the shore, they realize that in order to be accepted into the new settlements, they must pay a price. Unfortunately, they have nothing to offer. Meanwhile, they come across a convoy led by Lady Inghean, the daughter of Scottish King Dunchaid, who is preparing for her wedding. In order to obtain a ransom, they kidnap Lady Inghean. Unbeknownst to them, the King sends his ruthless mercenaries, known as the "wolves" and just as savage as the Vikings, to hunt them down. However, the mercenaries' intentions are not to retrieve the kidnapped girl but to kill her wherever they find her.
Dreaming of obtaining a ransom, the exiled Viking warriors find themselves in a situation of fugitives in an unfamiliar country. They seek help from a reclusive Christian monk. As events unfold, encompassing themes of heroism, war, faith, loyalty and betrayal, hatred and love, the story takes an unexpected turn.
